Sustainability

Sustainability and aluminium are a match made in heaven. Aluminium is a material that can be melted down a reused a virtually infinite number of times.

At mejo, we firmly believe that acting in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner is of the utmost importance. And this is a belief that we put into practice – starting with the structure of our own company and the solar panels on the roof and extending into our production processes through the use of secondary aluminium in our plant and the sustainable partnerships we establish.

Billets made of primary or secondary aluminium

When ordering custom profiles for your project, you can choose between billets made of primary aluminium and billets made of secondary aluminium.

Primary aluminium

is extracted from bauxite. The bauxite is first converted into aluminium oxide, and this is then converted into primary aluminium through electrolysis.

Billets made from primary aluminium alloys are used when higher demands are placed on the purity of the metallic structure.

This is the case, for example, with anodised profiles or wherever requirements go beyond a simple protective anodising.

We are happy to advise you on the options available.

Secondary aluminium

is a significantly more resource-friendly option, as it is produced from aluminium scrap that has been melted down. The carbon emissions from secondary aluminium production are much lower. Our partner plants already use up to 40% secondary aluminium per tonne of aluminium.

Billets made from secondary aluminium alloys are typically used where the demands on the purity of the metallic structure are lower.

A possible application is in standard-quality profiles where an anodised layer only needs to meet protective requirements, or where profiles have no visible surfaces.

You can find more detailed information in our blog post on this topic.

Please note: In some cases, we may advise against the use of secondary aluminium. This includes projects that require anodised aluminium to be used for aesthetic purposes.

For technical reasons, secondary aluminium alloys are less suitable for a decorative anodised finish than primary aluminium alloys due to their varying chemical composition. We are happy to advise you on this.

Ready for CBAM

All of our aluminium special profiles and aluminium custom profiles have been registered for CBAM. In our warehouses, we have No Name Konstruktion® and No Name Solar® mounting rails for solar and photovoltaic installations in stock at all times. These products are already CBAM ready. You don’t need to worry about registration and additional costs, and you can simply focus on getting started with your project.

Good to know:
CBAM applies exclusively to goods imported into the European Union from non-EU countries. As the importer of these products, we are subject to CBAM obligations – our customers are not.

This means you do not need to create your own CBAM reports, request emission data, or purchase certificates. All our aluminium products imported into the EU are already CBAM-compliant and fully documented.

What this means for our customers:
The goods are CBAM-ready. We handle the entire administrative process – from reporting to purchasing the CBAM certificates.

Sustainability in our partner plants

At mejo, we don’t just promote sustainability in our own company, we also work with partner plants who are involved in local initiatives and activities that aim to promote environmental protection and sustainability. This includes investing in air filtration systems in their plants or buying rainforest land to ensure that it is protected.
